The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (Bremen German Chamber Philharmonic) was named by Grammophon as the world’s “Orchestra of the Year” 2023/24. They’ve also been honored with the “Opus Klassik 2024” in the category of “Orchestra of the Year,” an award given for exceptional audio productions in the field of classical music in Germany.
The Orchestra discovered young Finnish conductor
Tarmo Peltokoski (born in 2000) when he led the players during 2021 workshops. Won over by his passion for music, inspirational ability to communicate, sense of humor, and willingness to listen and collaborate, Peltokoski was appointed Principal Guest Conductor in January 2022, a position created especially for him and unprecedented in the orchestra’s 42 year history. In addition to this post, in the space of just two years he has been named Music Director Designate of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Music and Artistic Director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Last October he also was awarded an Opus Klassik as “Young Artist of the Year.” The German daily newspaper Der Tagesspiegel declared Peltokoski “the Finnish wonder-conductor,” “a talent of a century.” Also last October Peltokoski signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon (DG) and became the youngest conductor on their roster. With the Bremen German Chamber Philharmonic, Peltokoski released his first album (in May) with three Mozart symphonies. Their recording of Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in g-minor is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
