Composer & Pianist John Field (1782-1837)
Irish born pianist John Field was a child prodigy and in his later years became an influence on a long line of pianists and composers including Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Frédéric Chopin who advanced Field’s invention of the Nocturne to new heights. With occasional Irish musical embellishments such as harp-like movements in the left hand and an Irish reel in the first movement, the Piano Concerto No. 2 by John Field is today's Midday Masterpiece.
