Composer Lars-Erik Larsson (1908-1986)
20th century Swedish composer Lars-Erik Larsson withdrew each of his three symphonies after their premieres. In harsh self-criticism in the 1940s he said his symphonies were just an exercise in his musical development and that his smaller-scale works were better. But in the 1970s he heard his symphonies again and reconsidered, allowing them to be performed. In fact, the third movement of his 1937 Symphony No. 2 became a big hit as a standalone piece. Larsson's ENTIRE Symphony No. 2 is today's Midday Masterpiece.
