Isle of Lewis in the Hebrides Islands, Scotland | Image by gren from Pixabay
London-born English composer Granville Bantock had a keen interest in his Scottish Heritage. So he toured the Scottish Highlands and Hebrides Islands, then in 1915 composed his "Hebridean Symphony." On the printed score of his symphony he wrote the poem,
From the lone shieling of the misty island
Mountains divide us and a waste of seas-
Yet still the blood is strong, the heart is Highland,
And we in dreams behold the Hebrides.
Bantock's "Hebridean Symphony" is today's Midday Masterpiece.
