Arnold Bax (1883-1953) in 1942
English composer Arnold Bax (1883-1953) in 1902 discovered the poetry of Yeats, and subsequently the atmosphere of Ireland & Scotland and celtic mythology & folklore began to appear in his music. But with his Fifth symphony, Nordic moods, especially as heard in music of Sibelius, attracted him. And so both influences can be heard in the Symphony No. 5 of Arnold Bax, today's Midday Masterpiece.
