Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847)
Composed two years before his death in 1845, the Piano Trio No. 2 by Felix Mendelssohn is considered the more challenging piano trio than his first work in the same form completed six years earlier. Though both Piano Trios are celebrated works of the chamber repertory, the first uses more song-like themes while themes in the second are more suited to compositional development and is generally admired as the more mature work. The Piano Trio No. 2 by Felix Mendelssohn is today's Midday Masterpiece.
