Jan Křtitel Václav Kalivoda (or Johann Kalliwoda) in 1850
Composer Jan Kalliwoda was born in Prague in 1801 and wrote over 250 works including operas, symphonies and sacred music for the church at the court of a Prince in Germany where he was music director for over 40 years. And he was well respected too by such contemporaries as Robert Schumann. Kalliwoda’s Symphony No. 4 from 1836 is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
