Violinist Hilary Hahn | photo: O.J. Slaughter
Contemporary American bassist and composer Edgar Meyer is at home in classical, jazz, bluegrass and more. He once told an interviewer, “I’m not crossing over, this is simply what I do.” In 1999 he composed a violin concerto for violinist Hilary Hahn that is very much a hybrid of what classical music can often be today, even with a “classical” take on bluegrass. He wrote, “I conceived this violin concerto with Hilary Hahn’s singular voice in mind,” and she performs Meyer’s violin concerto for today’s Midday Masterpiece.
