"Liberty Leading the People," by Eugène Delacroix, commemorating the July Revolution of 1830, which toppled King Charles X and brought back "The Marseillaise" as the French national anthem.
You may know the tune of the French national anthem, “The Marseillaise.” But it’s less likely you know the 19th century Imperial Russian anthem, “God Save the Czar,” which goes to war with “The Marseillaise” in one of the most popular works of classical music—Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture..
