Excellence In Jazz Playlist, September 28, 2016
Vocalist and jazz promoter Vivian Lee sits in with Gary during the 8 p.m. hour!
Lee’s entrepreneurial spirit and talent as a vocalist have made her a permanent and valuable fixture on the Sacramento jazz scene for many years. Vivian has done more than anyone to promote jazz music and its makers through her Scarlett Production concerts at various venues throughout northern California.
As a performer, Lee has a silky smooth voice and a stage presence that reflects her knowledge of the master vocalists who have preceded her. Jazz vocalist and educator Julia Dollison wrote, “Lee’s voice is like sipping a fine chardonnay on a winter’s night – smooth as it glides through you.”
Vivian has released four CDs. Her most recent “From Miss Lee To You,” released in March of 2013, pays homage to the vocalists and instrumentalists who inspired Lee in her formative years. Vivian is joined on the album by some of Sacramento’s finest musicians, including Ron Foggia, Jeff Clayton, and Darius Babazadeh.
Although JB’s Lounge, a club that Vivian booked with bright talent for over a decade, is now history, Vivian Lee continues to pull together musicians to make the music live on in our community.
