The 2014 Festival of New American Music opens at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, with a gala performance featuring the New York based new music ensemble loadbang (bass clarinet, trumpet, trombone, baritone voice), pianist Lara Downes, and the Rootstock Percussion Trio.
The festival features some of the country's leading contemporary classical music composers and performers. This year marks the 38th year the festival has been a fall fixture on the Sacramento State campus, along with some additional venues.
The evening featured concerts will be live webcast, with performances most nights at 8 p.m. There are no FeNAM events scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 11, due to Veteran's Day. The final concert of the festival is set for 6 p.m. Saturday featuring Charles Spurill on violin and Michael Riesman on piano from the Music Recital Hall.
FeNAM keynote speaker Mohammed Fairouz was featured on Insight today.
