Because of a mother who loved opera and an aunt who loved Beethoven, classical music is in my DNA. The moment I want to share, however, happened a few years ago while watching the movie “Shawshank Redemption.” In the middle of this rough and dark prison story, one of the inmates manages to play a duet from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro over the prison loudspeaker. The women’s beautiful voices waft over the grey inmates and for a moment they are transfixed. Morgan Freeman narrates over the music, expressing how deeply the music reached their souls and set them free...for just a moment. His words touched me…even brought me to tears. They truly conveyed, so eloquently, the love I have for classical music.
