As a part of CapRadio’s inaugural Student Musician Showcase Week, a jazz quartet from Folsom High School joined us in the studio for a live performance and interview.
The pianoless quartet includes Brian Nipper on tenor sax, Matthew Wang on trombone, Sophia Augustine on bass and Eli Strombom on drums.

The Folsom High jazz program is directed by music instructor Curtis Gaesser, who was one of 25 semifinalists for the 2018 Grammy Foundation National Music Educator Award. Gaesser has been teaching in the Folsom/Cordova School District in Folsom, California, for 36 years. He currently teaches Marching Band, Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Choir, three Jazz Bands, Concert Band, Color Guard, and Drumline at the high school, according to the National Association for Music Education.
