Davis-based pianist Lara Downes discovered Billie Holiday as a young girl flipping through her mother’s record collection. Fast forward to this weekend and you’ll find Downes performing some of Holiday’s greatest songs at the Mondavi Center in the remembrance “But Beautiful.” She has also recently released an album she recorded with cellist Zuill Bailey called “Some Other Time.” We’ll talk with Downes about the concerts Saturday and Sunday at Mondavi and her collaboration with Bailey.
