The opioid crisis claimed more than 30,000 lives in 2015 from drug overdoses. Just last week, President Trump announced a state of emergency over the opioid epidemic, which could mean additional funding, resources and law enforcement coming down the pipeline.
Sacramento County is not inoculated from the crisis; 48 people overdosed on fentanyl last year alone and more than 330,000 are prescribed opioid drugs.
Sacramento County Public Health Officer Dr. Olivia Kasirye explains the county’s response to the ongoing crisis and Dr. David Copenhaver explains doctors role in fighting the epidemic.
