As Sacramento continues to explore solutions to the homeless crisis in the city, a new performance sheds light on the experience of those living on the streets. Birmingham Blues, written by Charlotte Higgins and directed by Maggie Upton attempts to bring humor and empathy to the story of homelessness through a cast of unlikely characters.
Maggie and Charlotte share their story with a few weeks left in production. The show runs at the Wilkerson Theatre through Oct. 27.
A portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold will go to two organizations that work with homeless people: Saint John's Program for Real Change in Sacramento, and the El Dorado Community Foundation's new S.H.A.P.E. (Spreading Hope And Prosperity in El Dorado) fund.
