After a busy first year in office, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg returns to Insight to reflect on his accomplishments and his goals for 2018.
Steinberg has focused on helping homeless residents by working with the County Board of Supervisors to generate new funding for treatment and temporary housing. He worked with the teacher’s union to avoid a massive strike in the fall. He’s courted at least one Fortune 500 company and could be instrumental in bringing a professional franchise to the city.
However, he faces major challenges in 2018 as housing prices in the city rise to unprecedented levels, police relations are tense in several communities, and many people in the artistic community feel they’ve been left low on the priority list.
