Local members of the Cherokee tribe are planning to commemorate their famous ancestor John Rollin Ridge, also known as Yellow Bird, at his final resting place in Grass Valley. Ridge came to California in the nineteenth century and is considered the first Native American novelist for his work, “The Life and Adventures of Joaquin Murieta.”

They’ll join us in-studio the week before the ceremony to describe his legacy and why he’s relevant to tribe members today.
