KALW began a radio journalism and production training program at San Quentin prison in 2013, a program that culminated in the award-winning podcast “Ear Hustle.” Now, the station is expanding its program to California State Prison Solano, training a new group of incarcerated men to be radio reporters and producers from inside prison.

In the new program, a class of seven is learning to create their own radio stories by producing audio postcards in the style of “Story Corps.” We're joined by KALW producer Eli Wirtschafter and one of the program's trainees to talk about their work.
