Veteran journalist Andy Furillo joins us to talk about his new self-published novel, "The First Year," which follows a wood sculptor in Sacramento trying to make sense of what happened at the dawn of the age of Trump. Before his fiction career, Furillo spent 44 years working for newspapers, including 26 years with the Bee. He’s won several awards for his reporting on street gangs in Los Angeles, California prisons and wage theft in the agricultural industry. In 2016, he published a non-fiction book about his father called “The Steamer: Bud Furillo and the Golden Age of L.A. Sports.”
