Actor Jahi Kearse is in very high demand this year. He’s performing the role of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the B Street Theatre this month in the original production “Martin Luther King Jr. & the Sound of Freedom” by Jerry Montoya. The play focuses on the unsung heroes of the Civil Rights Movement, as narrated by Dr. King.
Then, in February Kearse is off to New York to perform the role of Motown founder Berry Gordy in “Ain’t Too Proud.” Kearse performed the role at Berkeley Repertory Theatre before it heads to Broadway.
Jahi Kearse and Jerry Montoya return to Insight to discuss the play and Kearse’s third stint on Broadway. (He previously performed on Broadway in “Baby It’s You!” in 2011 and “Holler If Ya Hear Me” in 2014.)
“Ain’t Too Proud - The Life And Times Of The Temptations” opens March 21 at the Imperial Theatre in New York City. "Martin Luther King Jr. & the Sound of Freedom" is playing at the B Street Theatre from Jan. 19 to Feb. 3.
