The USC Center for Health Journalism Collaborative is a made of nine reporters and editors from several California news outlets who aim to answer a difficult question: Who remains uninsured in California? The team will spend six months tackling that question, supported by a grant from the California Healthcare Foundation. This year could be a major turning point in answering that question for policymakers. Gov. Gavin Newsom has made expanding access through MediCal coverage and expanding premium subsidies for families a priority. California’s fiscal strength creates a unique opportunity to address access to health insurance and primary care for more residents. CapRadio healthcare reporter Sammy Caiola and Orange County Register reporter Deepa Bharath discuss the new collaborative project, "Uncovered California."
