For this week’s Sound Advice, Submerge Magazine co-founder Jonathan Carabba previews upcoming rock, folk-pop, and R&B soul concerts in the Sacramento area.
Basi Vibe
The 2019 Concerts in the Park series kicks off this Friday. On the lineup is Basi Vibe, the Sacramento soul and R&B artist who will hit the CIP stage on May 10, when he will open for national act Souls of Mischief along with locals The Philharmonik and Soosh*e.
Basi describes himself as a “singer, songwriter, and musician; but poet first.” His latest release is the Somnus EP. The latest issue of Submerge Magazine features a cover story interview with Basi Vibe about the inspiration and musical growth that spawned the new record. The free outdoor series Concerts in the Park kicks off this Friday at Cesar Chavez Plaza and runs through July 26.
Jeremy Enigk
Jeremy Enigk is a legendary singer-songwriter from Seattle, who made his name as the lead singer of the highly influential rock band Sunny Day Real Estate. He is a powerful songwriter with richly produced solo releases. He often tours with just a guitar, playing small intimate venues, even living rooms sometimes, but this time around he’s taking a full band out to play songs off his 2017 release Ghosts. Enigk will be performing at Holy Diver Tuesday, May 7 with a full band for a special tour to support his 2017 album “Ghosts.” The latest issue of Submerge Magazine features an in-depth cover story with Jeremy Enigk about how a re-release of his 1996 solo album “Return of the Frog Queen” delayed the tour for “Ghosts” by almost two years, but also reignited his muse.
According to Bazooka
Sacramento based folk-pop band According to Bazooka experiments with nostalgic music that crosses genres. The four-piece band plays a fun blend of folk and pop infused with elements of rock and roll, rockabilly, country and zydeco. According to Bazooka will be featured in the May 8 issue of Submerge Magazine with the release of their newest album The Devil’s in the Details. They’re hosting an album release show at Fox & Goose on Friday, May 17.
