It was another busy week in politics. Lots going on in Washington, and right here in California, too. Gov. Gavin Newsom released what’s known as his “May Revise” budget and presidential hopefuls spent time in the state.
POLITICO’s Carla Marinucci, who co-writes the “California Playbook” column with Jeremy White, found Newsom’s budget address held some significant new information in the areas of education, climate change, cannabis, health care and homelessness. She thinks Newsom is way out in front in understanding stalling evictions are at the forefront of stemming the tide of homelessness, particularly among low income, single African-American mothers and their children.
Over the weekend, Marinucci attended events for South Bend Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg. She talks about “Mayor Pete’s” public spat with President Donald Trump and his courting of Newsom, despite the governor's endorsement of California U.S. Senator and presidential hopeful Kamala Harris.
