The curtain goes up on Sacramento Ballet’s 65th season Thursday through Saturday as the dancers, choreographers, musicians and artistic director present their opener, "Mozart in Motion." These performances will kick off the second season with Sacramento Ballet Artistic Director Amy Seiwert at the helm.

The opening dance on the program, "Embellish," is choreographed by Jodie Gates. Gates is a Sacramento native and the vice dean and director of USC’s Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. "Embellish" has been described as “fluent and theatrically savvy” by The New York Times.

Next on the program is Seiwert’s piece choreographed to Mozart’s famously unfinished "Requiem." The program closes with the world premiere of "On the Rocks, Please!" choreographed by Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship Award winner Darrell Grand Moultrie. Moultrie is a nationally recognized choreographer who has created works for major companies in the United States, and for Beyoncé. "On the Rocks, Please!" will feature live music by a trio of musicians: Soprano Carrie Hennessey, flutist Cathie Apple and pianist Jennifer Reason.

Seiwert and Gates first met in Sacramento in the 1990s and were on the same program together in 2012, as they both created world premieres for Colorado Ballet. Both choreographers will join Insight in studio to talk about "Mozart in Motion" and future plans of Sacramento Ballet.
