Stories on Stage Sacramento gives audiences a unique opportunity to see literature come to life as stories are performed on stage by local actors. Held bimonthly from February through October, Stories on Stage was founded in 2010 by writer Valerie Fioravanti. The events center on fictional short stories written by established and emerging Sacramento-area writers, read by local actors.
This Friday, Stories on Stage will feature two pieces of nonfiction. CRAVE: A Memoir of Food and Longing by Christine O’Brien will be performed by Kelly Ogden. Then, actress Justine Lopez will perform an excerpt from Jen Palmares Meadows’ in-progress memoir, "Betting On Brown." Her story details growing up in a Filipino family of gamblers, and explores the paradox of the thrill and escapism of gambling.
Palmares Meadows will join Insight to discuss her work. Joining her is Sue Staats, coordinator of Stories on Stage Sacramento. Staats took the helm at Stories on Stage Sacramento in 2013, and this Friday’s event will be her last in that role. Stories on Stage Sacramento will be held this Friday, October 25, at the Auditorium at CLARA, 1425 24th Street in Sacramento. Doors open at 7 p.m., readings begin at 7:30 p.m.
