California’s history since statehood is documented at the State Archives on O Street in Sacramento. The collection consists of state documents, maps, photos, videos and more. And it’s open to the public on most weekdays from 9:30 AM to 4 PM.
The State Archives will provide a free, behind-the-scenes guided tour of their collections on Thursday, Nov. 21 from 10:00 am-11:00 am, focusing on the history of the Thanksgiving holiday in California. The guided tour provides a close encounter with the Archives’ one-of-a-kind historical documents and behind-the-scenes views of the preservation and imaging labs. This month’s tour will feature Thanksgiving recipes from historic cookbooks, records from the Turkey Advisory Board, photographs of fall foliage in California, and more.
We’ll introduce you to the new State Archivist, Tamara Martin, as she joins Insight to talk more about her job and the tour.
