Band leader and baritone saxophonist Byron Colborn brings his eighteen piece band to Davis for a seasonal concert. The program features Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s jazzed up arrangements of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite and other holiday classics. Ellington and Strayhorn’s The Nutcracker Suite was recorded for the Columbia label in 1960, with an all-star roster of musicians.
The Byron Colborn Big Band is comprised of alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, trombone, trumpet, guitar, piano, bass, drums and vocals. The band’s upcoming performance of the Ellington/Strayhorn Nutcracker Suite and more is Dec. 14 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Davis High School’s Richard Brunelle Performance Hall at 315 West 14th Street in Davis.
