A conversation about flu season and flu shots is typical at this time of year. Various strains of flu circulate around the world. Flu can be deadly and, though it doesn’t hit the western United States in full force until the new year, people start getting flu shots in August and September.
Recently, Jon Bafus, who appeared in the previous Insight segment, became severely ill with a rare autoimmune blood disorder. He believes it was triggered by his flu shot. In this part of the show, Dr. Dean Blumberg joins Bafus to talk about this. Blumberg is an Infectious Disease Specialist at UC Davis Children’s Hospital. He’ll also talk about the flu and questions that arise about the flu vaccine.
