“Amaluna” is a Cirque du Soleil show that is loosely based on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” The name is an amalgam of “ama,” which is “mother” in many languages and “luna,” meaning “moon,” which is often associated with femininity. The cast of this Cirque du Soleil show is 70% female.
The show was created and directed by Diane Paulus. Paulus is the Artistic Director at Harvard University’s American Repertory Theater.
“Amaluna” first opened in Montreal in 2012. It runs from January 22 through February 23, 2020, following a run in San Francisco.
