There was a lot of coverage of AB 5 before it passed and it continues to garner headlines. A number of professional sectors that utilize a lot of freelance contract labor have requested exemptions from making those who work for them into employees. And, in some cases, the contractors themselves prefer not to be classified as employees.
This issue is particularly concerning and confusing for artists and small arts organizations. A number of professional organizations and unions are trying to advocate for clarifications to resolve the issues that have been raised.
