The Supreme Court ruled Monday that a federal civil rights law protects gay, lesbian and transgender people from workplace discrimination. 

The vote hands a landmark victory to millions of LGBTQ workers across the country, who argued that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which bars discrimination based on sex, does not extend to claims of sexual orientation or gender identity. The nation’s High Court also decided not to hear a challenge to California’s sanctuary law; we have more on the rulings today.
