Singer-songwriter Crystal Bowersox has released a new song “Courage to be Kind,” with strong themes of compassion and forgiveness in spite of adversity.
Bowersox wrote the song a few years ago in response to the nine racially motivated murders that took place in Charleston, South Carolina at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in 2015. The compassion victims’ family members chose to show the murderer was a powerful moment that inspired the Nashville-based artist.
Today we talk with Bowersox about the song, what it means and how it came to be.
