Santa Barbara, Calif., is a college town with a vibrant music scene. Gardens and Villa was formed there by five college friends, and is already booked to play Coachella, so it's clear that the group is on the rise. The synth-heavy pop band has a distinct '80s vibe, but it also adds elements of the outdoors to the mix — including an assortment of bamboo flutes, which singer Chris Lynch holds in a quiver strapped to his back. Gardens and Villa claims Prince as a major influence, particularly in the standout track "Orange Blossom."

The Prince-loving Santa Barbara band mixes synths and bamboo flutes to conjure the sounds of the '80s in this performance for KCRW.
