After a few tumultuous years and questions about whether it even had a future, the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera is starting to see its fortunes turn around.

Attendance is on the rise, there’s been a 60 percent increase in subscriptions since the 2012-2013 season, breaking a 10-year subscription record, and some new approaches to programming are resonating with the community.

Leading the turnaround is Executive Director Alice Sauro, a conservatory-trained violinist who spent 25 years performing before an injury led her into management. We’ll talk with Sauro about keeping the Sac Philharmonic and Opera alive and well and what that means for the community.
