Capitol Chat What were the biggest stories to come out of California’s capitol this year? Capitol Bureau Chief Ben Adler joins us for the final Capitol Chat of 2013. We’ll take a look at some of the stories that have topped our lists, including California’s budget surplus, the FBI’s investigation into alleged pay-for-play by Sen. Ron Calderon and the opening of a new health-insurance exchange in the state.
Rob Stewart “Rob on the Road” One of the most popular programs on Sacramento PBS station KVIE/Channel 6. Its cheery, storytelling host and producer Rob Stewart is much of the reason why. Stewart joined KVIE in 2008 after years in local news in Philadelphia – he’s been a reporter on the America’s Heartland and CA Heartland series - and this year, he won the Arts Journalism Award from the Sacramento Arts & Business Council. We’ll talk with Stewart about his career and preview the latest “Rob on the Road,” which premieres Monday, Dec. 23.
Beer and Food Everyone asks what wine to bring to Christmas dinner, but you don’t often hear people asking what beer they should bring. And, depending on the meal, certain beers will pair better than others.
Joining us to discuss holiday beer pairings is Charles Bamforth, Distinguished Professor at UC Davis’ Department of Food Science and Technology. Bamforth will also talk about the flavor of beer, which is the basis of this new book, “Flavor.”
Sound Advice: Blue Dog Jam It’s time for Sound Advice and our focus today is Blue Dog Jam, Capital Public Radio’s Saturday night music show that’s eclectic, inquisitive and pretty darn cool. Our guide today is the show’s host, Nick Brunner, and he’ll take us back through some of his favorites songs from 2013.
