Special Olympian Donald Schendel Donald Schendel is the most decorated Special Olympian in the Sacramento area and was inducted last month into the Sacramento Sports Hall of Fame. In 44 years of competing in every possible sport, he’s won 218 gold, silver and bronze medals. When Don was born in 1959, little was known about Down’s Syndrome. Doctors suggested that his parents should institutionalize him, but they decided to keep him at home in the family and “hope for the best.” Donald and his father DeWayne join us in studio to share some stories – and some heartwarming laughs.

James Marsters If you see an excessive number of people donning capes and super hero costumes this weekend there’s no need for fear. Sacramento’s Comic Con is here! It’s the inaugural Wizard World Sacramento Comic Con to be precise, and it’s bringing an abundance of pop culture sci-fi icons to the convention center this weekend. One of those icons is Modesto’s James Marsters, a cult favorite who’s best known for his role as Spike, the platinum blonde vampire on hit shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Marsters joins us ahead of the convention to talk about his acting, his music and his appearance in Sacramento this weekend.

Tom and Sally Scrap artists and long-time Land Park residents, Tom & Sally Myers will talk about reviving their famous “wood sculptures” made popular in the 1970’s. Over many decades, the couple carved a very successful career in photography (they have a collection of more than 700,000 slides) but they had put work on the miniature sculptures aside. Recently, Tom became re-inspired and they are working in their side-by-side workshops again. A Second Saturday reception 6-9 p.m. opens their month-long show at 33rd St. Bistro on Folsom Blvd.
