Sacramento, CA
A town in Colombia that has had a long-standing reputation for having a high rate of mental retardation has been found to actually have a high rate of the autism spectrum disorder Fragile X instead. UC Davis researchers visited this village in early 2014 to try to understand why it has such a high number of cases of Fragile X, and whether there is an identifying factor that might help solve the autism mystery. Autism researcher Dr. Randi Hagerman from Sacramento’s MIND Institute was on Insight March 5, 2014 to talk about the project termed “Colombia Project of Hope.”
