In 2014, as California entered into the third year of drought, two UC Davis researchers took it upon themselves to document how the lack of rain is affecting the state’s farmers and ranchers. To do this, Ken Tate and Brad Hooker set out with a voice recorder to capture real stories from farmers and ranchers who are dealing with the effects of the drought firsthand. The project is called Voices from the Drought and it’s modeled after Caroline Henderson’s “Letters from the Dust Bowl.” Beth Ruyak spoke with the two researchers in June of 2014 about the project.
