Sister Crayon is releasing its second album, Devoted, today and the songs come from a tough place for lead singer and lyricist Terra Lopez.
"I don't write songs when I'm happy; I've never been able to do that, so I think all of these songs come from a kind of exhausted, desperate place."
That idea comes forward in a big way during Devoted's dark and breathy lead track, "Armor." Lopez explains how a song written while she was on her back and crying became something that empowers her.
