What does this year's Davis Music Festival lineup and CapRadio have in common? A lot of artists. Over the years we've heard from Ross Hammond, Element Brass Band, Desario, Two Sheds and Tom Brosseau either on Insight or Nick Brunner's in-studio sessions - and all these performers and more are playing the Davis Music Festival this weekend.

One of my favorite acts that's come through the station and is also playing at Davis Music Festival is Be Calm Honcho. 

Their song "I Love California" lodges itself in my head and makes me proud to be from this great state.

Be Calm Honcho is playing on the Crossbill Records Stage on Saturday at the Odd Fellows Hall at 10:45 – that stage is also featuring Tom Brosseau, Sunmonks, and Two Sheds.

Sound Avice is all about new music, so enough living in the past, let's look at some Davis Music Fest acts that are new to us. 

Starting with San Franscisco's Scary Little Friends, a three-piece folk outfit. Their music is really fun, emotional pop-rock; it’s thoughtful and gets your toe tapping. This song is called "Fix Myself" and it’s from their 2013 release called From The Beginning. 

Also from the San Fanscisco indie-folk scene we have Owl Paws. This group kind of reminds me of the Decemberist, but more personal and less historic. Here's a song called "Cold Lead Bath" off their 2013 release of the same name.

They’re playing at Vini Wine Bar at 8:15 p.m., Ross Hammond plays right before them and Misner & Smith play right after. 

We're not straying to far from indie-folks with this next duo. Planes On Paper are from Washington State and their style of expertly layered harmonies and precise songwriting is earning them a lot of attention on the blogosphere. This song is called "Monolithia" and it’s off their January release titled Ruins.

They’re playing a brunch show on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Delta of Venus.

Tickets are available now at Armadillo Records for $25 or $35 day of. The festival is in its fifth year and boasts more than 60 bands, playing on 12 different stages – shows start Friday and go until Sunday.

Shifting gears a little bit, tonight in Sacramento a live music landmark celebrate 40 years in the business. Fox & Goose has been a fixture in the folk and Americana scene since opening in 1975. 

The British-style public house not only has the best olallieberry scones in the region also boasts a diverse lineup of evening events. The pub is celebrating 40 years of business tonight with a show featuring performances by Be Brave Bold Robot, The Mike Justis Band, The Blue Moon Boys, and Steve McLane. The festivities kick off at 4 p.m. and it’s all ages until 9:30 when it switches over to 21+ until 12 a.m.

Here's a track by the rockabilly band, The Blue Moon Boys. This is technically a reunion show because the guys don't play together much anymore, but did play a lot at Fox & Goose in the '80s and '90s.
