Sacramento, CA
West Sacramento band Salt Wizard is making a name for itself. Fresh off a 2015 Sammie win for Outstanding Folk Rock band, Salt Wizard is headlining this week’s Hot Lunch Concert Series in midtown Sacramento.
The band is made up of Rachel Lomax, Eric Warren, Anthony Ordonez, and Brett Hart.
The band name originated on a fateful camping trip where someone forgot to bring spices.
"We were wishing that some sort of magical being would come and spice up our really bland pasta," says Warren.
While the name was inspired from bland food their sound is anything but. With inspirations coming from folk, jazz and indie rock - putting Salt Wizard's sound into a genre box proves a little difficult.
"I like the idea of infinite possibilities. I don't want to be categorized, actually," says Warren. "I want to be able to explore all different types of music and styles."
Lomax said one of the questions she hates answering is 'what genre are you.'
"Everyone has their own opinion of what you remind them of."
