Sacramento, CA
Ideateam is a Sacramento-based, nine-piece funk band that is performing at Sacramento’s Concerts in the Park in Cesar Chavez Plaza this Friday with Arden Park Roots, Century Got Bars, J-RAS, Charleee, Braden Scott Band and Shaun Slaughter.
The four members of the rhythm section spoke with Beth Ruyak about their music and their new self-produced album last summer. We’re re-aired that interview ahead of Friday’s concert.
Ideateam is made up of high school friends Kyle Pulskamp on bass, Timothy Snoke on guitar, Joey Carusi on drums, Justin Butler on guitar, Mark Miller on alto saxophone, Josh Cambridge on trombone, Chris Ryan on tenor saxophone, Mike Ruiz on percussion and Garrett Wildgust on vocals.
"I remember being in bands in high school and it was really what you did after you did your homework," says Carusi. "But now it's kind of like it's own living organism that takes a lot of work and investment. It's work."
They started with four people and their ranks swelled to nine.
"We don't do much in moderation," says Butler. "It was kind of a biproduct of what we were hearing that wasn't quite there. It took a little bit of will-power and a little bit of chance and eventually we have this team that we love and care about. It's pretty special."
Ideateam released their debut album last October, you can listen to it in full below.
