A UC Davis, School of Law professor has been appointed as special rapporteur in the field of cultural rights to the United Nations Human Rights Council, the U.N.’s top human rights body. Law professor Karima Bennoune is a Muslim fundamentalism expert and author of “Your Fatwa Does Not Apply Here: Untold Stories from the Fight Against Muslim Fundamentalism.” In her role with the UN, she will make official visits to countries; observe and report on the promotion and protection of cultural rights at the local, national, regional and international levels; identify possible obstacles to the promotion and protection of cultural rights; and make recommendations to the council on possible actions. She joins us to talk more about the appointment.

Dr. Karima Bennoune will be speaking on the Sacramento State campus on Oct. 13 at 12 p.m. in the student union.
