Sacramento, CA
Sacramento percussionist Alex Jenkins has a new album coming out. "Jumping Ship" features Alex Jenkins, a stalwart of the Northern California jazz scene, leading a session with fellow NorCal musician Gerry Pineda on bass and native Australian/recent New York transplant Jacam Manricks on alto and soprano saxes and alto flute.
The seven compositions that make up “Jumping Ship” – which were all written by Jenkins and arranged by the group - were recorded in one day with no overdubbing. We’ll talk with Jenkins about the new album and hear some music. A record-release party is scheduled this Saturday, Oct. 24, at Luna’s Café in Sacramento.
Jenkins will play the show with Jacam Manricks on sax and flute and Kerry Kashiwagi on bass. Ross Hammond is opening the night with a solo electric set.
