If you’re a writer it seems like you’re either published or unpublished. But there’s a gray area of publication making a renaissance in modern literary circles. It’s called the chapbook and it’s a short collection of poetry, short stories or novellas. Popular from the 17th to 19th centuries, chapbooks were small, affordable booklets around 30 pages in length that could be passed from person to person. It’s not trying to be a formal publication, and exists solely to spread one’s writing. Joining Insight to explain why this form of publication is making a comeback in the digital age is author Kate Asche. She is publishing her first chapbook of poems - Our Day in the Labyrinth - this Friday. A launch party for the chapbook is Friday night at Sacramento Poetry Center in Midtown Sacramento.
