Sacramento, CA
Faculty of the California State University system will be demonstrating outside the CSU Board of Trustees meeting in Long Beach on Tuesday. Faculty and university executives are fighting over a labor dispute. Faculty are asking for a 5 percent raise and a move away from hiring part-time lecturers instead of tenure-track professors.
CSU leaders are offering a 2 percent raise and say a 5 percent raise would cost the Cal State system $82 million. Joining Insight to talk about the pay dispute are Kevin Wehr, a sociology professor at Sacramento State University and chair of the California Faculty Association bargaining team, and Laurie Weidner, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Public Affairs for CSU.
