When policymakers address issues that impact women, how do they know their efforts are working? The California Budget & Policy Center has created a new metric – The California Women’s Well-Being Index – to measure at the county and statewide level how women are faring. The index looks at the quality of health, economic status, and political participation to illuminate the status of women in California through data. Insight talks with California Budget & Policy Center’s Steven Bliss about the genesis of the index, what data goes into it, and how lawmakers can use it to shape future policies.
