Distinguished novelist, Julie Otsuka, explores the themes of Japanese internment during World War II and the immigration of picture brides, in her award-winning novels, "When the Emperor Was Divine" and "The Buddha in the Attic."

Otsuka was born and raised in California and drew from her own family history for the storyline in her first book. Her second novel was inspired by stories she heard while on tour with that book and then researched in great depth.

The author joins Insight on Wednesday and then onstage later that evening in Auburn for Auburn’s One Book One Community event.
