Could storytelling improve a patient's medical experience?
Many doctors believe it can and there’s even a movement within medicine to incorporate people’s narratives in patient care.
Dr. Michael LaCombe is a cardiologist with Maine General Medical Center and considered a leader in the narrative movement in medicine.
He is UC Davis School of Medicine’s 2016 Nelson Lecturer in the Humanities and he’s scheduled to speak in Sacramento this evening.
We’ll learn more about narrative medicine from UC Davis physician and professor of internal medicine Dr. Faith Fitzgerald.
A close associate of Dr. LaCombe’s, Dr. Fitzgerald was awarded first prize at the premier “On Being a Doctor” Story Slam, hosted by the Annals of Internal Medicine.
